BLOOMINGTON — Indiana football fans eager to watch and see if their Hoosiers can pull off the program’s first win against a top-10 team at home in front of fans in 38 years will need to check their streaming subscriptions.
Because after a nearly two-hour weather delay in South Bend as No. 24 Notre Dame takes on Purdue in a state of Indiana college football showdown, No. 17 IU’s home primetime game against No. 8 Illinois originally slated for 7:30 p.m. on NBC has been shifted over to the network’s live-streaming service, Peacock. The kickoff at Memorial Stadium, too, has been delayed 20 minutes to 7:50 p.m.
With just over 90 seconds left in the first half and Notre Dame leading Purdue 28-13, the pair’s game was put under a minimum 30-minute weather stoppage due to lightning that lasted until 7 p.m. The teams traded scores several times in the closing 91 seconds, leaving the Fighting Irish up 35-23 headed into halftime.
Notre Dame kicked off the third quarter with another touchdown to take a 42-23 lead, but it’s unclear whether or not NBC officials might prematurely switch over to the matchup featuring a pair of top-20 ranked teams over what very well may turn into a blowout home win for Notre Dame before the final whistle for NBC’s network airwaves.
