MSU hoops target reportedly cuts one of remaining finalists from consideration

One of the top Spartans’ targets in the 2026 class has cut one of his finalists from the running.

Julius Avent of Oradell, N.J. has reportedly cut Providence from the schools he’s considering, according to Sam Kayser of LeagueRDY. This is notable because Avent was set to take an official visit to Providence this weekend — who was recently announced as one of his finalists.

Avent is a four-star power forward prospect in the 2026 class that has been a priority target for the Spartans in this recruiting cycle. He has a recruiting rating of 97.21 in 247Sports’ composite system and ranks as the No. 77 overall prospect in the class. He is also ranked as the No. 13 power forward in the class.

Michigan State recently hosted Avent for an official visit, and he is also still reportedly scheduled to visit Xavier Seton Hall. His other fourth finalist still in the running is Penn State.

While this isn’t a guarantee the Spartans will land Avent’s commitment, it certainly is a positive step in Michigan State’s pursuit for him. We will need to continue to monitor his recruitment over the next few weeks as I’m sure a decision is coming soon for him.
