Texans place CB Jaylin Smith on injured reserve following injury in Week 2

Jaylin Smith’s rookie season might in jeopardy for the Houston Texans entering the closing days of September.

The Texans are placing Smith on the injured reserve with a hamstring injury. Smith didn’t practice at all ahead of Week 3’s battle with the Jacksonville Jaguars and was ruled out of the contest on Friday afternoon before the team left for

In a corresponding move, the Texans have signed fullback Jakob Johnson to the active roster, following raising him from the practice squad for the first two games. He will serve as a potential tight end and special teams talent for the offense as C.J. Stroud looks to secure a win in the AFC South, along with a win in general.

Houston also plans to elevate defensive backs D’Angelo Ross and Myles Bryant to the active roster.

Currently, Smith serves as the Texans‘ No. 3 third cornerback behind starters Derek Stingley Jr. and Kamari Lassiter. He’s played 21 snaps on defense over his first two NFL games and also been a factor on special teams.

Where Smith truly stands out is on dime packages. When the Texans run a six-defensive-back look, the third-round plays outside cornerback while Lassiter shifts into the slot. He’s been in use several times during the first two games with the package.

Kickoff is scheduled for noon on CBS.
