Defense Dominates: Social media reacts to Oklahoma's 24-17 win over Auburn

When you get to the season, nobody is going to ask you how you won; they’re only going to ask how many you won. Through the first four games of the 2025 season, the Oklahoma Sooners are 4-0 and are now 1-0 in SEC play after their 24-17 win over the Auburn Tigers.

Although some will try to make this game about missed calls (there were on both sides of the contest), this game was about Oklahoma’s defensive front making life really difficult for Auburn‘s much-ballyhooed offensive line and quarterback Jackson Arnold.

Officially, the Sooners came away with nine sacks on the day after Marvin Jones, Jr.’s “horsecollar” sack was taken off the board. Still, that was an old fashioned whoopin’. The Sooners’ defense brought it all game long and finished it off with sacks on back-to-back plays from Gracen Halton and R Mason Thomas to get the safety and make it a seven-point win.

This was why Brent Venables was brought to Oklahoma. To bring back the defensive culture of toughness and physicality. And when it mattered most in the fourth quarter, the Oklahoma Sooners were the more physical team and the more relentless team on both sides of the ball.

And that’s why they won the game.

Here’s a look at how social media reacted to the Oklahoma Sooners 24-17 win over Auburn.
