It didn’t take long for Pittsburgh Steelers defensive tackle Derrick Harmon to get his name in the boxscore on Sunday. The rookie defensive tackle made his NFL debut on Sunday after missing the first two games with a knee injury and just over midway through the first quarter with just a few snaps, Harmon already has his first career sack.
Pittsburgh picked Harmon in the first round of the 2025 NFL draft out of Oregon because of his burst and explosion at the line of scrimmage. This was on full display in his sack of Patriots quarterback Drake Maye when he blew up the middle of the play and closed quickly to seal the deal ahead of veteran defensive tackle Cameron Heyward.

Harmon is a welcome return to a Steelers defensive line that hasn’t had much good news through two games. Harmon joins fellow Yahya Black as key players on the defensive front, thanks to the long list of injuries this defense has been forced to endure already.
