Texas A&M’s Week 4 bye week served as an opportunity for several key players, safety Bryce Anderson and linebacker Scooby Williams, to rest and recover with the hopes of playing in the very near future. Starting quarterback Marcel Reed has also taken several big hits over the last two weeks, so two full weeks to recover came at the perfect time.
While it wasn’t the most impactful week in college football, Clemson’s double-digit home loss to Syracuse dropped the Tigers and veteran head coach Dabo Swinney to 1-3. In contrast, Arkansas’s shocking road loss to Memphis, despite holding a significant lead in the second half, has led to heightened discussion regarding head coach Sam Pittman’s future in Fayetteville.
Along with the Aggies, six SEC teams were on a bye, as Texas A&M will host Auburn ahead of a three-game home slate, while Alabama and Georgia will square off in Athens for what could be a high-scoring contest. Despite defeating Notre Dame on the road in Week 3, Texas A&M still has a lot to prove before we can take them seriously as a College Football Playoff contender, which will officially begin against the Tigers this weekend.
After moving up one spot to No. 9 in the latest US LBM Coaches Poll, Texas A&M also rose to No. 9, while Oklahoma, which defeated Auburn 24-17 at home on Saturday, climbed four spots to No. 7. Ahead of Week 5, here is the updated AP Top 25 Poll.
