Spartans land near top of USCHO.com preseason hockey national rankings

Michigan State hockey will officially start the 2025-26 season as a preseason top five team.

The USCHO.com preseason poll was released on Monday afternoon, and to no surprise Michigan State was near the top of the national rankings. But how high were they? Well, it wasn’t the top spot but only a few spots below at No. 3.

Michigan State was behind only defending national champions Western Michigan (No. 1) and Boston University (No. 2). Michigan State came in at No. 3 but had the second-most first place votes with 14 to the Broncos’ 29 in the preseason poll.

Among Big Ten teams, Michigan State just edged out Penn State (No. 5) for the highest-ranking of any team from the league. Also ranked from the Big Ten was Minnesota (No. 8), Michigan (No. 12), Ohio State (No. 16) and Wisconsin (No. 20). Notre Dame was the lone team from the Big Ten to not land in the preseason poll.
