Last week, Adidas, Texas A&M’s official uniform partner, announced that the Aggies will wear a throwback look, most likely during this weekend’s home matchup against Auburn. By the look of it, the Aggies will honor the 1975 team that finished 10-2, including ten consecutive wins, including a 20-10 victory over the Texas Longhorns.
So far this season, Texas A&M has experimented with its uniform choice during the Week 3 road win over Notre Dame, opting for an all-white look with “Aggies” written across the helmet instead of the standard “ATM” logo. This was a popular look for most of the fan base, and knowing that the Aggies will wear the blackout look against Mississippi State in Week 6, it’s no surprise that experimentation will continue.
For older Aggies who remember the 1975 team, this marked the beginning of two solid decades of Aggie football, culminating in the program’s best run under its best head coach, R. C. Slocum, in the 1990s. In his second season at the helm, Mike Elko is building a program that has gained national respect on the recruiting trail, and, after three games on the field, especially after defeating Notre Dame on the road in Week 3.
