After a win on Sunday to improve to 2-1 on the season, the Jacksonville Jaguars are moving up in the latest Week 4 NFL power rankings.
Just one week after the Jaguars suffered a crushing loss to the Bengals, which included Jacksonville struggling to come up with the big play late, the opposite took place against Houston.
With the game tied late, cornerback Tyson Campbell forced a crucial fumble that not only gave the ball back to the Jaguars offense but also took points off the board for the Texans.
Trevor Lawrence then connected with Brian Thomas Jr. for a 46-yard catch and run that set up the go-ahead touchdown, followed by the defense coming up with a late stop.
“Being in that situation was just like, ‘We got to take it, we got to get it,”’ Josh Hines-Allen said, via Jaguars.com.
“No matter the situation, they weren’t going to score. That was our mentality: ‘They’re not scoring. They can drive the field, whatever they want to do, they’re not scoring.’ We just made a play and Antonio was in the right spot, being where he’s supposed to be and took advantage of the opportunity.”
Entering a Week 4 matchup with San Francisco, here is where the Jaguars land in the latest power rankings.

The Jaguars made a big jump in Eric Edholm’s rankings, moving up six spots to No. 17.
“A young team has to make big plays in crunch time to learn how to win, and the Jaguars did just that by causing three fourth-quarter turnovers vs. Houston — their third straight three-takeaway game to open the season,” Edholm wrote.

The Jaguars went from No. 23 in the ESPN power rankings to No. 18 after last week’s win.

Another six-spot jump for the Jaguars, who go from No. 24 to No. 18 in Mike Florio’s rankings.
“They tried to give Sunday’s game to Houston; they’re lucky the Texans apparently didn’t want to take it,” Florio wrote.
The Athletic
Chad Graff and Josh Kendall have the Jaguars at No. 16. However, despite the Jaguars’ win, Graff and Kendall note that they aren’t seeing the jump that they anticipated from Trevor Lawrence.
“It’s still early, but this season, Lawrence has completed just 58.8 percent of his passes (30th in the NFL) for 5.9 yards per attempt (25th) and has thrown as many touchdowns (four) as interceptions.”
CBS Sports
Pete Prisco has the Jaguars jump two spots, from No. 17 to No. 15, in his Week 4 rankings.
“The defense saved the day against the Texans, but the offense still isn’t clicking,” wrote Prisco. “They have way too many penalties and drops.”
