Leading up to Sunday’s showdown between the Rams and Colts, quarterback Daniel Jones had a lot of good things to say about veteran Matthew Stafford on Wednesday. Jones called him a “fun guy to watch,” showing how Stafford has been one of the most entertaining quarterbacks in the league for a long time. From big throws to being able to adjust his arm and throw at any angle, Jones made it clear that Stafford has always stood out to him.
Jones also praised Stafford’s arm talent, saying he’s “extremely talented as a passer” and can make any throw on the field. He mentioned how Stafford makes tough throws look easy, which has been a staple in his game since he was drafted in Detroit. Jones knows how few and far between it is for a quarterback to have this ability, and he sees it as something that separates Stafford from the rest.
Something else that impressed Jones was Stafford’s football knowledge and how he sees the game like no one else at his position. He said Stafford “knows where the ball is supposed to go” and executes at a high level. Jones, who has been building his confidence up with the Colts this season after a tumultuous start to his career in New York, sees Stafford’s decision-making and awareness as an example of how experience in this league, as well as having the right pieces around you, can elevate a quarterback’s game.
Jones, who is in his seventh season, pointed out Stafford’s consistency. He’s been “playing really well for a long time,” and Jones respects the longevity that comes with having repeated success in the NFL, as Stafford has been the model of that since he arrived in Los Angeles.
With the 3-0 Colts traveling to Los Angeles this Sunday, Jones and Stafford will share the field in what could be the most exciting quarterback matchup of the weekend. Both teams have played well to start the season, and whichever of the two performs better may be the difference in what team makes it out with the win.
