Former Badgers tight end Jake Ferguson having huge season as Cowboys prepare for Packers

Former University of Wisconsin tight end Jake Ferguson will face off again with the Green Bay Packers on Sept. 28, coming off a sensational showing in a loss to the Chicago Bears.

The fourth-year NFL pro caught 13 passes on 14 targets in the 31-14 setback, good for 82 yards. That blew away his previous best of nine catches; he never hit double digits in any game while playing for the Badgers.

His 27 catches are second-most of any NFL player regardless of position, two behind Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua.

With CeeDee Lamb sidelined, it stands to reason that Ferguson will continue to see massive opportunities when the Cowboys face the Packers on “Sunday Night Football” this weekend.

Ferguson’s 183 receiving yards sits second among tight ends, behind Indianapolis rookie Tyler Warren, who has 193 yards in just 14 catches.

Ferguson played 14 games last year and caught 59 passes for 494 yards, but no touchdowns. In fact, he hasn’t gotten into the end zone since the 2023 postseason, when he had three touchdowns in the playoff loss to Green Bay. Ferguson caught 71 passes for 761 yards in 2023 with five scores, earning him a Pro Bowl spot in his second year.

Ferguson, who attended Madison Memorial High School, was named first-team All-Big Ten for UW in 2021 and got drafted in the fourth round by the Cowboys in 2022. Yes, yes, he’s Barry Alvarez’s grandson.

He’s also engaged to social media influencer and former college basketball player Haley Cavinder.
