Vanderbilt baseball flips elite 2026 recruit James Tronstein from Stanford

Vanderbilt baseball flipped James Tronstein, the No. 69 player in the 2026 class, from Stanford, he announced Sept. 23 on social media.

Tronstein attends Harvard-Westlake School in Los Angeles. The 5-foot-11, 175-pounder has played both middle infield and outfield but projects best in center field long term.

Vanderbilt’s No. 1-ranked 2026 recruiting class now has 11 players ranked in the top 100, according to Perfect Game.

The Commodores have added two of those top-100 players in September with Tronstein and pitcher Joseph Contreras. They also landed a commitment from infielder Kaleb Traylor. This is the first full recruiting class put together by new recruiting coordinator Ty Blankmeyer, who is entering his second season in 2026. In the 2025 class, five of the nine freshmen who ended up on campus were recruited under Blankmeyer.

“The way to go for us is good high school players that we can keep and develop,” coach Tim Corbin said of his recruiting strategy Sept. 16. “That feels right.”
