After promoting fullback Adam Prentice from the practice squad to the 53-man roster on Wednesday, the Denver Broncos filled Prentice’s former spot on the practice squad by signing defensive back A.J. Woods.
Woods (5-9, 186 pounds) played wide receiver and cornerback at Northwest High School before switching to cornerback full-time at Pittsburgh. He spent five years at Pitt, appearing in 59 games. The cornerback totaled 105 tackles, 25 pass breakups, four interceptions and two sacks with college football’s Panthers.
The Washington Commanders signed Woods as an undrafted free agent in 2024, but he failed to make their 53-man roster. Woods then joined the Philadelphia Eagles‘ practice squad, where he spent all of the 2024 season. Woods is yet to appear in a regular season game in the NFL, but he received a ring after the Eagles won Super Bowl LIX last season.
