Causes for concern as Bears battle the Raiders in Week 4

The Chicago Bears will look to record their second straight win of the 2025 season this weekend when they travel to Las Vegas to take on the Raiders in Week 4.

Both the Bears and Raiders have new coaching staffs this year, with Chicago led by first-time head coach Ben Johnson and Las Vegas being led by veteran head coach and Super Bowl champion Pete Carroll. With both coaches looking to right the ship from slow starts on their new teams, the Bears may have even more importance for this game, as they’ll enter their bye week after this game.

Plenty of the conversation for Chicago was how their offense played against the Dallas Cowboys, but they’ll still need their defense to answer the call, as well, with the returns of cornerback Kyler Gordon and linebacker T.J. Edwards up in the air.

Here’s a look at three of the biggest causes for concern as the Bears take on the Raiders this Sunday:

Injuries still a problem

Starting off the week of practice, the Bears are without several key players including defensive tackle Grady Jarrett, linebacker T.J. Edwards, cornerback Kyler Gordon, right tackle Darnell Wright, and tight end Colston Loveland. All five of those players can have their own significant impact in this matchup, but the biggest concern could be Wright at the right tackle position. The offensive line played tremendously against the Cowboys, and they can’t afford to take a step back against the Raiders, especially with pass rusher Maxx Crosby on the opposite side.

Lack of a run game

There is still a major issue with the lack of success in the running game, which has seen D’Andre Swift total just 149 yards and only one touchdown on the season. Even more concerning is that quarterback Caleb Williams is the second-leading rusher with 97 yards, meaning there needs to be more production from Kyle Monangai and Roschon Johnson, the latter has yet to make any impact at all on offense. The Raiders allowed over 200 rushing yards to the Washington Commanders last week, but the Bears have yet to get their running game going.

Raiders’ big-play ability

Before discussing the big-play ability the Raiders have, it’s worth mentioning that Chicago has allowed 19 receptions to opposing tight ends in the first three games, including 13 catches by Jake Ferguson of the Cowboys last week. It’s hard to argue against Brock Bowers being one of the best tight ends in football, and depending on how the injury front is for Chicago’s defense, they could be very vulnerable against him. On top of Bowers, the Raiders have two big play threats with Dont’e Thornton Jr. and Jakobi Meyers, two wide receivers averaging nearly 20 yards per reception for Las Vegas’ offense, as well as Tre Tucker, who’s coming off a three-touchdown performance.
