The New York Mets own a one-game lead over the Cincinnati Reds and Arizona Diamondbacks in the race for the third National League wild card after the D’backs’ attempt to rally past the Los Angeles Dodgers for the second consecutive night came up short.
Arizona scored three runs in the bottom of the 8th inning to tie the game at 4, but the D’backs were unable to score after that.
The Dodgers’ 5-4 win in 11 innings along with losses by the Reds and Mets left Arizona even with the Reds. Both teams trail the Mets by one game in the standings.
The Reds hold the tiebreaker with both teams. Arizona holds a tiebreaker with the Mets.
The Reds wrap up their series with the Pirates on Thursday afternoon; the Diamondbacks and Dodgers play their series finale, and the Mets have one more game Thursday night at Wrigley Field against the Cubs.
