New York Giants vs. Los Angeles Chargers: 3 causes for concern

The New York Giants (0-3) will host the Los Angeles Chargers (3-0) at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, on Sunday afternoon for a Week 4 game.

The Chargers are currently trending in the opposite direction as the Giants, sporting a perfect 3-0 record, and will enter the game as one of the six remaining NFL teams with an undefeated record.

The Giants are still searching for their first win of the season. However, the attention will be on rookie Jaxson Dart as he makes the first start of his career on Sunday.

With a ton of excitement behind Jaxson Dart’s first start, here are three causes for concern:

Chargers’ offensive yardage output

The Chargers are off to a great start to the season, led by quarterback Justin Herbert, who seems to have elevated his game through the first three games. Their offense averages 362.3 yards per game, which is the sixth-highest average in the league. The Giants haven’t been great in pass coverage, and the Chargers have a ton of talent in their wide receiver corps. They are also averaging 270 passing yards per game. The Giants will have their hands full with the Chargers’ pass attack.

Rookie growing pains

The Giants will be turning the page and have Dart take the field as the team’s starting quarterback on Sunday. Obviously, Dart had a phenomenal preseason. However, the Chargers are not an easy task for the rookie’s first start. Los Angeles has held their opponents to an average of 16.7 points per game, which is good for fourth-best in the league. Points have been hard to come by in two of the Giants’ three games so far this season, and you’d have to wonder if Dart is ready to go up against a good defense like the Chargers.

Giants rushing attack

With Tyrone Tracy Jr. out for several weeks, the Giants will have to ride the exciting legs of Cam Skattebo moving forward. They have had trouble running the ball, and it may be difficult against a Chargers team that allows the fourth-fewest rushing yards per game. You can expect Skattebo to continue to run hard, and hopefully, with the mobility that Dart brings to the table, the Giants are up to the challenge of the Chargers’ run stoppers.
