The Iowa football program is capitalizing on some turmoil at another Big Ten school.
The UCLA Bruins have been abysmal in 2025, starting 0-3 with blowout losses to Utah and New Mexico. Following that loss to New Mexico, the Bruins fired head coach DeShaun Foster, who was in his second year as head coach. Things were terrible on the field, and the program wanted a change. But when you fire a head coach mid-season, you have to expect some commits to move on. And that’s exactly what happened with 2026 three-star defensive back Toray Davis.
And on Thursday, the former Bruin commit took to X to announce that he’s received an offer from the Hawkeyes, his first offer since reopening his recruitment.
After a great conversation with @TylerBarnesIOWA, I am blessed to say I have received and offer form the University of Iowa. @TheIowaHawkeyes@warriorqbcoach@Warrior7v7@FairviewfbBoCopic.twitter.com/qYhu5HwW2K

The 6-foot-1, 185-pound defensive back is from Fairview High School in Boulder, Colorado, and had previously committed to UCLA on June 28. He chose the Bruins over offers from Utah, Kansas State, Colorado, Iowa State, and Minnesota, among others. And now the Hawkeyes and Kirk Ferentz have entered the mix to try and secure the talented three-star.
Davis has had an excellent career at Fairview High School. He’s played four games so far in 2025, on both sides of the ball, and been fantastic. On offense, he has 33 carries for 326 yards and a touchdown, while also catching 23 balls for 407 yards and five touchdowns. He had 11 receiving touchdowns as a junior. On defense this season, he has 28 total tackles, two tackles for loss, and four interceptions so far.
In addition to playing football, Davis is also involved in basketball and track and field, showing just how versatile an athlete he is. This would be a big commitment if Iowa can land the highly sought-after defensive back. Iowa currently has two defensive backs in its 2026 recruiting class in three-stars Darion Jones and Ronnie Hill. Davis would be a great addition to that group.
