Iowa football injury update: QB Mark Gronowski exits game vs. Indiana

Iowa and Indiana are playing a classic at Kinnick Stadium, but the biggest story of the afternoon for Iowa‘s season will be the condition of graduate quarterback Mark Gronowski.

Gronowski took off on a third-down scramble with the game tied at 10, and made a move to evade an Indiana defender. He went down gingerly and had to be helped off the field, limping with the assistance of some athletic trainers.

Iowa kicker Drew Stevens would hit a 54-yard field goal to give the Hawkeyes a 13-10 lead at the time, but the health of Gronowski is the biggest story.

Gronowski was seen with a brace on his left leg. After Gronowski exited the medical tent, the 6-foot-2 quarterback was warming and appeared primed to return for the Hawkeyes before backup quarterback Hank Brown ultimately entered the contest for Iowa on its next offensive series.

Gronowski departed having completed 19-of-25 passes for 144 yards with an interception against Indiana.

On his first series of work, Brown drove the Hawkeyes down to the Indiana 39-yard-line before his third-down pass was intercepted.

Hopefully for Iowa, it’s nothing serious and long-term for Gronowski, and he’ll be able to return to this game or after the bye week. This injury update carries a lot of weight for Iowa’s hopes and dreams this season.
