They say the best ability is availability. And two of the New Orleans Saints‘ cornerstones have that in spades; on Sunday, Demario Davis joined Cameron Jordan on the list of 110 players in NFL history to start at least 200 games. Davis and Jordan are two of the nine active players around the league to hit this milestone.
It’s the kind of thing you celebrate when a team is playing well but scrutinize when they’re 0-3. While the Saints have overseen a youth movement on offense with just two active players over age 30 (Alvin Kamara and Brandin Cooks), their defense is a different story. They have too many players on the wrong side of 30 playing too many snaps, especially on the defensive line. It makes for a slow unit.
Hopefully some young guys can step up to lower that pressure on Jordan and Davis to be perfect on every single down. Until worthy heirs for their roles at defensive end and linebacker step up, they’re going to continue to be critical starters for the Saints. Good on them for giving the team as many good years as they have.
Demario Davis will make his 200th career start today, becoming the 110th player in @NFL history to start 200 or more games. Davis will be one of nine active players to do so, joining Cam Jordan, Calais Campbell, Lavonte David, Aaron Rodgers, Matthew Stafford, Bobby Wagner,… pic.twitter.com/ncVhKnz0l1
