Steelers quarterback jumped, robbed ahead of Dublin matchup vs. Vikings, per report

The Pittsburgh Steelers are dealing with a scary situation ahead of their Week 4 matchup vs. the Minnesota Vikings — as one of their quarterbacks was reportedly jumped and robbed.

Almost an hour and a half before kickoff, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported that Steelers backup QB and preseason hero Skylar Thompson was jumped and robbed in Dublin on Friday night, suffering minor injuries but was “OK.” Pelissero also posted a statement from Steelers spokesman Burt Lauten confirming the report but offering no additional details.

“We are aware of a situation involving Skylar Thompson on Friday night in Dublin,” Lauten said. “We will have no further comment at this time as we are working with NFL security to gather more information regarding the incident.”

Signing with Pittsburgh this past January on a Reserve/Future contract, Thompson more than earned his spot on the Steelers’ roster with his preseason-MVP-esque performance. He was placed on IR following Pittsburgh’s Week 1 win over the New York Jets.

Here’s to hoping Thompson continues to make a speedy recovery, with this situation only fueling the Steelers ahead of their Week 4 matchup vs. the Vikings in Ireland.
