49ers star linebacker sets new franchise record, surpassing Hall of Famer

Throughout Sunday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars at Levi’s Stadium, the San Francisco 49ers were looking for anyone to turn up the pressure and create a turnover, and linebacker Fred Warner had his hands all over the ball.

Twice, Warner had a ball slip through his hands for would-be interceptions, and in the third quarter, he forced Jaguars wide receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter to fumble after a five-yard reception. Unfortunately, the fumble was recovered by Jacksonville.

However, that fumble still had significance, as it was Warner’s 17th forced fumble of his career, making him the franchise leader in the statistic. He surpassed Hall of Fame linebacker Patrick Willis, who had 16 in 112 regular-season games over his eight years in the NFL.

Warner was incredible through his first seven professional season, making four Pro Bowls and earning All-Pro honors four times as well. If he continues at this pace, he’ll earn both of those honors for a fifth time and is working toward joining Willis in Canton when he calls it a career.
