Browns fans react to Week 4 loss in Detroit

The Cleveland Browns are back in the loss column after a 34-10 defeat at the hands of the Detroit Lions.

Week 4 continued a frustrating trend for Cleveland; the Browns have now followed up a near-win in Week 1 and an actual upset win last Sunday with a pair of 24-point losses in Baltimore and Detroit. The loss drops Cleveland’s record to 1-3 on the young season and solidifies the team’s last-place status in the AFC North.

Let’s take a look at what Browns fans are saying about another blowout loss for the team in Week 4.

The QBs

The Browns have a pair of tough matchups on the horizon, as they face the Vikings in London next week and then return to the U.S. to face the AFC North-leading Steelers in Week 6, but it may only be a matter of time until the Browns replace their veteran starting quarterback. The team’s passing offense struggled yet again in the loss to Detroit, and rookie third-round pick entered the game late in relief of Joe Flacco for the second time in three weeks.

After another rough outing for Flacco, Browns fans (predictably) want a change, to the point where even former Browns safety T.J. Ward is calling for Gabriel to start.

The offense

The Browns’ weekly performance on offense is becoming extremely predictable. Over the last three games, the unit overall has struggled mightily when it comes to actually moving the football and putting up points, but several of the team’s rookie offensive playmakers have been impressive in their individual performances. That remained true for Quinshon Judkins on Sunday, who rushed for 82 yards and a touchdown on Sunday, the third time in three career games that he’s rushed for 60+ yards. Wide receiver Isaiah Bond also came up big in several moments, recording three catches for 58 yards, and while tight end Harold Fannin Jr. only caught two passes, he was targeted six times and remains a focus in Cleveland’s passing game.

The defense

Cleveland’s defense didn’t put up its best showing of the season in Week 4, but the unit still held up fairly well over the course of Sunday’s game. Tasked with slowing down a Lions rushing offense that gashed Baltimore for 224 yards and 5.9 yards per carry on the ground just six days ago, the Browns managed to cut both of those numbers roughly in half, allowing Detroit to gain 109 yards on the ground (3.3 per carry.) Cleveland’s pass rush didn’t bring down Jared Goff, but star cornerback Denzel Ward managed to capitalize on a bad throw from the Lions quarterback and nab the Browns’ only takeaway of the day.
