Philadelphia Eagles star wide receiver A.J. Brown has the sports world buzzing about a Biblical quote he shared following the team’s Week 4 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
One could easily surmise that he isn’t happy due to his lack of involvement on offense, despite the team boasting a perfect 4-0 record. There’s also the possibility that all of it is a big nothing-burger that has blown up bigger than ever intended.
Regardless, if there really is an opportunity to trade for Brown—or at the very least, put in a phone call—the Patriots should have been the first team on top of it the moment that social media post went out.
It would obviously be a surprise to see the Eagles move a player of Brown’s caliber this early in the season. But then again, he has 14 receptions for 151 yards and one touchdown. The offense isn’t exactly running through him so far this year.
That could change in the coming weeks, and it will fall on the Eagles to make sure the relationship doesn’t sour. It will also fall on the Patriots and other suitors to be convincing enough to make a blockbuster trade possible.
Here are three potential trades New England could offer Philly in a potential move for Brown:
1st trade package: Patriots send 2026 second-round draft pick to Eagles
The Patriots could offer the Eagles a second-round draft pick straight up for Brown. This trade makes sense from the standpoint of sending a premium pick back to the Eagles without completely crushing the Patriots’ ability to continue rebuilding through the draft.
They’d still have a first-round pick to use at another position of need since they’d finally have their No. 1 receiver. Meanwhile, the Eagles could leave all of the cryptic social media messaging in the rearview while getting a second-round pick and focusing on another championship run with their deeply talented roster as currently constructed.
2nd trade package: Patriots send 2026 first-round draft pick to Eagles
How bad do the Patriots want Brown? Is it bad enough to part ways with their first-round draft pick in 2026?
It might take the Patriots upsetting the Buffalo Bills on the road on Sunday and going on some crazy run for them even to consider making such a move. Mike Vrabel has already revealed that the plan for the team is to focus on rebuilding through the draft with young talent.
Shipping a first-round pick to the Eagles for a 28-year-old wide receiver would go against that plan. The team’s circumstances would likely have to push them in that direction.
3rd trade package: 2026 second-round draft pick, 2027 third-round pick
Another possibility is the Patriots shipping multiple picks to Philly. It’s hard to envision them doing two picks in the same draft given their current roster situation. They will need all of the picks they can get to continue rebuilding in 2026.
But they might consider delaying a second draft pick for 2027.
That would net the Eagles two premium draft picks, while the Patriots keep their first-round pick and get legitimate breathing room in draft payment. The goal for New England would be to land a star player without completely disrupting their rebuilding plan.
