More than a few players in NBA history have found out that they were traded to a team they’d rather have avoided being part of, but when it comes to Anfernee Simons learning he’d been dealt to the Boston Celtics, the former Portland Trail Blazers shared that he was excited about changing teams to his new squad based on the other side of the country.
Speaking to the press for the Celtics’ 2025-26 media day, Simons shared his perspective on when he found out he’d been traded to Boston. “It was kind of a surreal moment that it actually happened,” explained the Florida native. “I turned the page and knew that I was going to a great spot and coming in here to a great organization,” he added.
“Everybody that’s been here said great things about the organization. My vet, (former Boston forward Evan Turner), said that he loved it here,” said Simons. “I was pretty excited about it”
His new head coach, Joe Mazzulla, shares that excitement of having Simons at his disposal, and with the former Blazers’ propensity to let it fly from beyond the arc, it could be a match made in heaven. But the truth of that statement will be largely determined by the level of effort Simons provides on defense.
So far, he’s said what fans have hoped to hear, but the proof will be in how he plays when the rubber meets the road of the 2025-26 regular season.
