Everything Texas A&M football's cornerbacks said ahead of matchup against MSU

Suppose the Texas A&M Aggies want to capture their second Southeastern Conference victory of the season Saturday at Kyle Field. In that case, it will take another impressive performance from the Maroon and White secondary against a dangerous Mississippi State passing attack.

The unit that ranked 90th in FBS at the conclusion of the 2024 season has displayed consistent improvement through the first four games of this year’s ventures, including a lockdown performance against the Auburn Tigers, in which the Aggies only allowed 125 passing yards against one of the most talented wide receiving corps in the conference.

There is still much work to do, however. The group will need to fire on all cylinders this week against the Bulldogs, who rank as the fifth-best scoring offense in the SEC heading into Week 6. This is not the same program that the Aggies faced last season, as MSU head coach Jeff Lebby has reloaded the roster with extremely explosive wide receivers like transfers Brenen Thompson and Anthony Evans III, with fifth-year quarterback Blake Shapen throwing the ball around.

Another factor that the Texas A&M secondary will be faced with this weekend is MSU’s rushing attack of Fluff Bothwell and Davon Booth, both of whom can reach the second and third levels quickly. If the Aggies want to defeat the Bulldogs and move to 5-0 on the season, senior cornerback Tyreek Chappell and junior Will Lee III will need to have big games for the Aggies on Saturday night.
