Sure, the Iowa Hawkeyes lost to the Indiana Hoosiers, and there are no consolation prizes in Big Ten football, but to say that the Hawkeyes are unable to compete feels like a bit of rough treatment and a stretch after how close they were to knocking off a College Football Playoff contender.
Iowa had every opportunity to beat Indiana, and one could say that they gave it away at the end of the game with a chance to take the lead and pull off the upset.
Due to that, many may think Iowa proved that it can compete with anyone. CBS Sports is not on that train of thought, though.
The weekly CBS Sports 136 Rankings have hammered the Iowa Hawkeyes for their loss in the rankings, sliding them down eight spots after the loss to No. 49 in the country.
This is a steep drop after the USA TODAY Sports Re-Rank only dropped Iowa one spot for how they had the Indiana Hoosiers on the ropes.
The Hawkeyes are idle this Saturday as they look to regroup and get back in the win column as their Big Ten slate churns on. Up next for Iowa is a night game against the Wisconsin Badgers on Saturday, Oct. 11, at Camp Randall in Madison, Wisconsin, set for 6 p.m. CT.
