Josh Blackwell credits Bears' long snapper with tip for blocked FG

In the closing moments of the Chicago Bears‘ 25-24 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday, special teams contributor Josh Blackwell sealed the win with a blocked 54-yard field goal of Daniel Carlson.

Head coach Ben Johnson said in his post-game press conference that he heard special teams coach Richard Hightower call his shot that Blackwell would block the kick, but there may have been more to it than just a hunch.

Following the win, Blackwell gave more insight into the game-winning moment, revealing that long snapper Scott Daly actually caught on to a tendency by Raiders long snapper Jacob Bobenmoyer that made it easier to time when to get a jump on the snap and potentially get a block.

“Throughout the week, Scott Daly had given us a little tip on the long snapper, he would move the ball right before he snapped it,” Blackwell said, via Marquee Sports Network. “The first two (attempts) we got really good jumps, I’m like ‘I’m close, I’m going to get one,’ they said we had to get the block, and I got a good jump.”

Blackwell is one of the under-the-radar players on the Bears roster, and he always seems to put himself in great position on special teams. It was not the best team performance, but Blackwell’s heroics got the Bears their second straight win as they head into the bye week.
