Report: Colts sign linebacker off Cowboys practice squad

The Indianapolis Colts continue to tweak the linebacker position.

According to Aaron Wilson of KPRC2 Houston, the Colts are signing Buddy Johnson off the Dallas Cowboys practice squad and on to their 53-man roster.

Following this acquisition, a corresponding roster move will have to be made to make room for Johnson on the roster.

Johnson was a fourth-round pick by the Steelers in 2021 out of Texas A&M. Over his career, he’s played just 14 defensive snaps.

On special teams, however, he emerged as a core contributor during the 2024 season, playing 321 snaps across five of the six different phases, according to PFF.

Johnson will obviously provide the Colts with added special teams depth, but he also provides Lou Anarumo with another option at linebacker.

That spot next to Zaire Franklin has been rotated heavily this season, with Joe Bachie, Cameron McGrone, Austin Ajiake, and Chad Muma all seeing relatively steady playing time at various points this season.
