What was once billed as one of the best undrafted free agent signings of the 2025 rookie class — the Pittsburgh Steelers have just lost DB Sebastian Castro to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
On Tuesday, the Buccaneers signed the former Iowa Hawkeye defensive back off the Steelers‘ practice squad — putting an end to the Castro-Pittsburgh experiment before it ever got going.

Considered one of the best run-stopping defensive backs ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft, Castro ultimately went undrafted but signed with Pittsburgh on April 26. He was waived on August 26 as part of final roster cuts but re-signed with the Steelers’ practice squad the next day.
Castro now joins Buccaneers’ Antoine Winfield Jr. and Tykee Smith to form arguably one of the best safety rooms in the league. It remains to be seen who will fill his spot on Pittsburgh’s practice squad, but now could be the perfect opportunity to bring back fan-favorite WR Roc Taylor.
