Roland Virkus has stepped down as sporting director of Borussia Mönchengladbach, the Bundesliga’s bottom side said in a statement on Tuesday.
The 58-year-old has been relieved of his duties at his own request.
He was seen by some fans as too inexperienced in world football when taking the job in 2022.
Virkus recently fired coach Gerardo Seoane after just three Bundesliga games. He placed former Gladbach player and under-23 boss Eugen Polanski in temporary charge.
Polanski managed a battling 1-1 draw at Bayer Leverkusen in his first game but then watched his side concede five in the first half of Saturday’s 6-4 thrashing at home to Eintracht Frankfurt.
