LSU football rankings: Tigers fall in SP+ rankings after Ole Miss loss

After suffering a 24-19 loss to Ole Miss, LSU football dropped in ESPN’s SP+ rankings. LSU now ranks No. 17 nationally, dropping two spots from No. 15.

LSU’s offense continues to slip in the rankings, now sitting at No. 40 nationally. That’s a steep drop for a unit that has spent most of the last two years ranked in or around the top-10. But LSU’s defense keeps climbing. The Tigers’ defense ranks No. 6 nationally in year two under DC Blake Baker. LSU allowed 24 points to Ole Miss, but it was the Rebels’ least productive offensive outing of the year.

Questions about the offense will continue until LSU proves it can score vs. SEC defenses. The Tigers can’t run the ball and Garrett Nussmeier looks like he’s still battling that torso injury.

Week 6 is open for LSU, and the Tigers’ next game is Oct. 11 vs the South Carolina Gamecocks. Shane Beamer’s squad ranks No. 35 in the latest SP+ rankings.
