New York Giants at quarter pole: Jaxson Dart starting, Malik Nabers torn ACL

Believe it or not, the first quarter of the 2025 NFL regular season is already under our belts. The New York Giants are 1-3 after four games, but could be at least 2-2 with a break or two.

Plenty has happened over the past month. Here’s a quick rundown.

Wide receiver Malik Nabers tore his ACL in last Sunday’s 21-18 win over the Los Angeles Chargers and will be lost for the remainder of the season.

Rookie Jaxson Dart took over the starting quarterback role from Russell Wilson in Week 4 and led the Giants to their first victory. He will be the team’s starter going forward.

Co-owner John Mara revealed this week that he is battling cancer but says he feels fine and will continue working.

The positives…

Linebacker Brian Burns is tied for the NFL lead in sacks (5) with Byron Young of the Los Angeles Rams. Cornerback Dru Phillips leads the league in passes defensed with eight. Cornerback Paulson Adebo is third in the NFL in solo tackles with 26.

Rookie running back Cam Skattebo is fifth among NFL rookies in total yards from scrimmage (279), but keep in mind he has only played three games. In those three games, Skattebo has 14 points, two touchdowns, and a two-point conversion.

The Giants are averaging 26.1 yards per kickoff attempt (10th) and have been excellent in kick and punt coverage (4th and 5th).

The negatives…

The Giants are near the bottom in nearly every significant defensive category, most notably total yards allowed per game (27th) and first downs allowed (32nd). They are in the bottom five in third- and fourth-down defense as well as red zone defense.

On offense, the Giants are averaging 18.3 points per game (27th), up just two points over their average last season. They are 28th on third- and fourth-downs and last in the red zone.

The next four weeks: at New Orleans, vs. Philadelphia, at Denver, and at Philadelphia.
