Texas A&M football’s bowl projections from major outlets after Week 5 of the 2025 season

Week 5 is where teams begin to separate nationally, with more competitive matchups starting to emerge. Even though it was a close game, Texas A&M managed to handle business, defeating the Auburn Tigers 16–10 at Kyle Field.

There are thematic weeks throughout the season, such as “Rivalry Week.” This past week could easily have been dubbed “Upset Week.” While most of the surprises weren’t overly shocking, the biggest stunner came when unranked Virginia toppled No. 8 Florida State 46–38. Ole Miss and Alabama both had statement wins, with Ole Miss already taking a commanding lead in the SEC title race thanks to a 3–0 conference record.

As for the Aggies, it’s the honeymoon phase—where the national media is once again enamored with the program and projecting them into the College Football Playoff. There’s a growing sense that this season feels different, and Texas A&M has yet to play its best football.

USA Today – Texas Bowl

Texas A&M vs Utah

  • Talk about rare opponents—these programs have only met three times, with the most recent clash in 2004 resulting in a 41–24 road loss for the Aggies. This matchup would offer fans a fresh experience and give A&M a chance to avenge a two-decade-old defeat.

CBS Sports – College Football Playoff (1st round)

Texas A&M vs Indiana

  • This matchup would mark the first-ever meeting between these two programs and could make for an intriguing contest. It’s a classic football school vs. basketball school showdown—always fun to watch when the stakes are high.

Athlon Sports – College Football Playoff (1st round)

Texas A&M vs Texas Tech

  • This would be a must-see game, featuring two teams with a rivalry dating back to 1927. The series is tight, with the Aggies holding a 37–32–1 edge, including a win in the last meeting before their departure to the SEC in the 2011–12 season. Another compelling storyline: the awkward saga of Micah Hudson, who transferred to A&M only to return to Texas Tech before spring ball even began.

ESPN – Cheez-It Citrus Bowl or College Football Playoff (Quarterfinal)

Bonagura – Cheez-It Bowl Texas A&M vs Michigan

  • A&M vs. Michigan would be a marquee matchup for college football fans. These teams have only met three times, with Michigan winning the first two in the 1970s. A&M claimed the most recent victory, 22–20, in the 1995 Alamo Bowl. At the same time, this has all the makings of a first-round playoff game, Bonagura projects that both teams will fall short of the CFP cut.

Schlabach – College Football Playoff (Quarterfinal): Texas A&M vs Ole Miss

  • If Jimbo Fisher were still at the helm, this might be billed as the game of the century. While recent history is sparse, A&M leads the series 9–4, though they’ve dropped the last three matchups.
