UND football lines up 2027 FBS game with Iowa

Oct. 1—GRAND FORKS — The UND football program has landed an FBS game for 2027.

The Fighting Hawks will play at Iowa on Saturday, Sept. 18, 2027, receiving a $550,000 guarantee for the game, according to FBSchedules.com.

The Hawkeyes play in Iowa City at Kinnick Stadium, which has a capacity of nearly 70,000.

UND last played Iowa in 1926 — a 40-17 loss at Kinnick Stadium.

The Fighting Hawks will be Iowa’s third opponent of the 2027 season, opening at home against Ball State before traveling to Ames to play at Iowa State.

UND is scheduled to play Idaho at the Alerus Center in Grand Forks on Sept. 11, 2027.

The Fighting Hawks haven’t won an FBS game since they beat Wyoming in 2015.

However, UND led Kansas State deep into the fourth quarter in 2025 until giving up an Avery Johnson-to-Joe Jackson 6-yard touchdown pass with 42 seconds to go to lose 38-35 in Manhattan at Bill Snyder Family Stadium.

The Hawks received a $475,000 guarantee to play Kansas State, a game that was originally scheduled for 2020 but was wiped out by the pandemic.

UND’s FBS game in 2026 is Sept. 19 at Nebraska.

UND’s FBS game in 2028 is Aug. 31 at Minnesota.
