Bucs‘ quarterback Baker Mayfield has found his forever home in Tampa Bay, but it took him a few stops along the way to get there. He started his career in Cleveland as the top pick in the 2018 NFL Draft before being sent to Carolina to be with the Panthers, and then ending up with the Los Angeles Rams.
His stop with the Panthers is one that the quarterback he plays on Sunday, Sam Darnold, will remember, as they were there at the same time together.
On Wednesday, Baker Mayfield was asked about his relationship with the Seahawks quarterback.
“Sam and I are really close. I’m happy for him – from going a couple different places that weren’t great for us to having a good opportunity elsewhere, it’s fun to see. I knew he just needed that chance, and he’s thriving now. It’s good to see, but hopefully not this weekend.”
Also, when he saw Sam Darnold, he was asked if they would reminisce about their time together. The response from the former Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback effectively summed up his thoughts on his tenure there. Mayfield said, “Reminisce about what days? Nope, we don’t.”
A bit of humor can be beneficial after a loss, allowing everyone to have a laugh. Also, can you ever expect anything but brutal honesty from Mayfield?
