For the first time in history, the Seattle Seahawks will be playing a home game on the same day as the Seattle Mariners will host a playoff game. The Seahawks are gearing up for a 50th anniversary double-throwback uniform game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, while the Mariners will be hosting Game 2 of the ALDS against either the Detroit Tigers or Cleveland Guardians (at the time of publication, both teams are 1-1 in their Wild Card series).
Going into this weekend, we knew the dates the Mariners would be playing, but we did not know at what time the first pitch would be. With this information up in the air, the possibility remained that the Seahawks’ kickoff time could be delayed anywhere from an hour and a half to two and a half hours past the originally scheduled 1:05 pm PT start.
Now we have a more concrete understanding of when both of these games will be played. The MLB announced the Mariners’ games on Saturday and Sunday will start at 5:03 pm. This means the Seahawks will get to keep their original start time of 1:05 pm that afternoon.
The SoDo Area of Seattle where these teams play cannot handle two games being played simultaneously, so it’s a good thing these two games will have staggered start times. However, for those planning on attending either game, please be sure to plan ahead, as it will still be a zoo of humanity to deal with!
