With little time to spare before the start of training camp, the Golden State Warriors got busy. Mike Dunleavy Jr. and Steve Kerr ended Golden State’s extended contract stalemate with Jonathan Kuminga before signing a flurry of veteran free agents. Along with Al Horford, Seth Curry and Gary Payton Jr., the Warriors brought back veteran guard De’Anthony Melton.
Melton spent six games with the Warriors before suffering a partially torn ACL that ended his season in November. After his injury, Melton was traded to the Brooklyn Nets in a trade package that brought Dennis Schroder to the Warriors.
After his quick stint with the Warriors, Melton returned to the Warriors on a new two-year contract. Despite his return, the Warriors will have to wait a little longer before Melton suits up in his No. 8 Golden State jersey again.
According to Anthony Slater of ESPN, Melton is still in the late stages of his ACL injury rehab. The Warriors anticipate Melton will miss the “early portion” of the regular season, per Slater.

In his six-game run with the Warriors in 2024, Melton impressed. The former USC Trojan averaged 10.3 points on 40.7% shooting from the field and 37.1% from deep to go along with 3.3 rebounds and 2.8 assists.
While Melton continues his rehab, the Warriors will lean on Brandin Podziemski, Buddy Hield, Moses Moody, Gary Payton II and rookie Will Richard in the backcourt rotation.
