Golden State Warriors fans are finally going to see Stephen and Seth Curry sharing the floor together in the Bay Area. Unfortunately, some patience may be required before that happens. Golden State recently added Seth Curry on an Exhibit 9 contract, which is a one-year, fully non-guaranteed deal. He will be with the franchise throughout training camp.
However, after inking Al Horford to a two-year $11.6 million deal using the taxpayer mid-level exception, Golden State is now hard-capped at the second apron. Therefore, they can’t carry a 15th man into the season due to the limited wiggle room on the cap sheet. Fortunately, there’s a way around the current restrictions. Veteran minimum deals are prorated in the NBA.
That means the cap hit decreases for each month of the season that has been played. Therefore, if the Warriors waive Seth Curry before the new season and sign him in mid-November, his contract will fit within the confines of Golden State’s spending limitations.

“Warriors are just over $2M from their second-apron hard cap. They can re-sign Seth Curry (or any vet minimum player) on November 11,” Cap expert Keith Smith posted on X.
While it’s not ideal that Seth and Steph Curry must wait a little while longer before sharing the court, it does appear to be something that will become commonplace before the end of 2025. Unfortunately, at least for the opening weeks of the season, Warriors fans will need to remain patient. But, after waiting for roughly a decade, a few more weeks shouldn’t be too much of a problem.
