Another Husker got added to the AVCA National Player of the Year Watch List on Thursday. Middle blocker Rebekah Allick joins the list following a commanding start to her senior year.
Allick is one of 17 players added to the list, following the AVCA’s initial naming of 30 players back in July. Fellow Huskers Andi Jackson, Harper Murray and Bergen Reilly made that list.
Allick now sits alongside her fellow teammates after a fierce opening half to the season. Through 11 matches, Allick is 97-of-164 for a .463 hitting percentage, which ranks first in the Big Ten and fourth in the nation, averaging 2.62 kills per set. Allick also leads the team in blocks, standing with 42 and averaging a team-high 1.22 blocks per set.
Allick also tied her career high in kills in a match, tallying 13 against Utah, and posted a season-high eight blocks in Nebraska’s reverse sweep over Kentucky. Allick also surpassed Sarah Pavan for fifth in school history in the rally scoring era for career blocks, delivering 460 through her Husker career. Allick also holds a .353 career attack percentage, which, for now, places her in sixth in school history in the rally scoring era.
The Player of the Year Semifinalists will be named in November, and finalists will be announced on Dec. 15 before the winner will be named in Kansas City at the AVCA Awards Banquet on Dec. 19.
