One thing about Coach Mike Elko is that he has consistently embraced the traditions of Texas A&M while also recognizing the importance of adapting to the evolving landscape of college athletics.
Saturday will be one of those moments that highlight Coach Elko’s adaptability. In addition to the “Operation Blackout” theme for uniforms and fan attire, the end zones have been painted black. Also, instead of the standard block lettering, the team is opting for the Aggies script design.
Now, depending on which generation of Aggie you’re speaking with, you might get a different reaction—and that’s perfectly fine. In the long run, if the Aggies win, none of it will matter anyway, because victories overshadow everything else.
But it goes much deeper than just sleek aesthetics. It’s about gaining a competitive edge in recruiting. The game-day experience means a great deal to recruits and their families, so anything you can reasonably do to make a recruiting visit more exciting must be taken into account.
Whether it’s upgraded lighting, alternate uniforms, or fresh paint on the field, Coach Elko is attuned to what’s needed beyond great coaching and winning to elevate the program as a whole.
Casuals will say you can still see the “TEXAS A&M” of the standard endzone design through the black paint.
True field aesthetic connoisseurs will say it’s sublimated. https://t.co/xZ2hswJWHE
