Oct. 5—DANUBE — It was a tale of two halves for Renville County West and Cedar Mountain on Saturday.
The two teams played a tight first half of football with the visiting Cougars up 22-16 at the break.
The second half was all Cedar Mountain. The Cougars outscored the Jaguars 29-0 after the break.
Cedar Mountain claimed the Week 6 victory, 51-16.
The Cougars ran for 289 yards and five touchdowns. Jackson Guetter led the charge with 104 yards and three touchdowns on 14 carries. Stan Heiling had a team-high 120 rushing yards and one touchdown on nine attempts.
Cougars quarterback Carson Schiller completed 9 of 15 passes for 194 yards and a touchdown. Cedar Mountain’s defense also helped in the scoring with a 32-yard interception return for a touchdown by Thomas Dahmes.
Jacob Savig accounted for both of the Jaguars’ touchdowns. The senior running back carried the ball 23 times for 105 yards.
RCW next plays at 7 p.m. Friday at New Ulm Cathedral. It’s a rematch of last year’s Section 2 final that the Jaguars won 12-0 in Cottonwood to go to state.
