Stefon Diggs NFL career timeline includes stints with four teams

Throughout his 11 years in the NFL, New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs has gained extensive experience adjusting to new digs.

The 2025 season saw Diggs join the fourth team of his career and third in the last three seasons. He played eight games in his lone season with the Houston Texans last year after spending the four prior seasons with the Buffalo Bills.

On Sunday, Diggs will play against the Bills – the team with which he earned four Pro Bowl nods and had the most productive seasons of his career – for the second time since leaving Buffalo. Last year in Houston, Diggs caught six passes for 82 yards against his former team.

It’s also the first of six potential meetings Diggs will have against Buffalo in the years to come after he signed a three-year deal with the divisional-rival Patriots this offseason.

  • May 2, 2015:Vikings select Diggs in the fifth round of the 2015 NFL Draft. He is the No. 146 overall pick and the 20th wide receiver off the board in that year’s class.
  • Jan. 14, 2018: Diggs ends up on the receiving end of the “Minneapolis Miracle.” His leap to grab a high throw from quarterback Case Keenum in the Vikings’ divisional round game against the New Orleans Saints caused safety Marcus Williams to miss his diving tackle. Diggs took the pass the rest of the way for a 61-yard touchdown as time expired, sending the Vikings to the NFC championship game.
  • March 20, 2020: The Vikings send Diggs and a seventh-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft to the Bills for a first-, fifth- and sixth-round pick in 2020 and a fourth-round pick in 2021.
  • Jan. 8, 2021: Diggs becomes first receiver in Bills history to be named to the AP All-Pro first team after leading the league in receptions (127) and receiving yards (1,535).
  • Jan. 24, 2021: Diggs remains on the field to watch the Chiefs celebrate after defeating the Bills in the AFC championship game. A picture of the moment goes viral in the aftermath of the loss. “I didn’t want to run from defeat,” Diggs said. “I took it as a moment as you came up short, get back in the lab, and you’ve gotta get back to the grind.”
  • April 6, 2022: Diggs signs a four-year, $96 million extension to keep him in Buffalo through 2027.
  • April 3, 2024: The Bills trade Diggs, a 2024 sixth-round pick and a 2025 fifth-round pick to the Texans for a 2025 second-round pick. Houston restructures his extension, shortening the two years remaining into what is essentially a one-year, $22.52 million deal.
  • Oct. 27, 2024: Diggs tears his ACL in a Week 8 game against the Colts and misses the rest of the season.
  • March 28, 2025: Diggs signs a three-year, $63.5 million contract with the Patriots after hitting free agency.
