LSU football was off in Week 6, but that doesn’t mean the Tigers can’t move in the US LBM Coaches Poll. LSU now ranks No. 11 after Sunday’s release, up from No. 13 last week.
LSU football sits at 4-1 and 1-1 in conference play. The Tigers began the year 4-0 before falling at Ole Miss in Week 5. The loss marked LSU’s first SEC loss of the year, too. LSU began SEC play with a win over Florida in Week 3. That victory looks slightly better after Florida upset Texas in Week 6.
But LSU doesn’t need to get caught up in the strength-of-schedule game yet. With only one loss, LSU remains in the thick of the College Football Playoff race and controls its own destiny. If LSU finishes the regular season 10-2, the Tigers are a shoo-in for the playoff.
That won’t be easy, though. LSU’s schedule is only getting tougher with three ranked contests in the next month. That includes a road trip to face the Alabama Crimson Tide.
LSU’s next opponent is South Carolina. The Tigers welcome the Gamecocks to Baton Rouge in Week 7. Shane Beamer’s squad was not ranked in the US LBM Coaches Poll.
