Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Jackson Chourio, who left Game 1 of the team’s National League Division Series with a tweaked right hamstring, is headed right back to left field in Game 2.
Brewers manager Pat Murphy told reporters before the Oct. 6 game between the Brewers and Chicago Cubs that Chourio will indeed be leading off against left-hander Shota Imanaga at American Family Field and playing in his usual spot. Murphy said Oct. 5 that results of an MRI were “inconclusive” and Chourio would essentially be a game-time decision after going through a pregame workout.
Chourio recorded a historic three hits in the first two innings of Game 1, legging out an infield single for an RBI for the third hit. It was on that play that Chourio felt discomfort in his right hamstring, the same hamstring that cost him nearly all of August this season after suffering an injury running the bases, also against the Cubs.
“It’s the mental hurdle,” Murphy said. “I’m sure it’s not 100%, but I’m more worried about behavior than feelings. How he feels isn’t as important as how he behaves.
“If he gets in a situation where he feels it, we’re going to take him out.”
Chourio doubled leading off Game 1 and immediately came around to score, then singled in two more runs later in the six-run first inning that gave the Brewers a 6-1 lead Oct. 4. His infield single against former teammate Aaron Civale came with the bases loaded, but the Brewers were unable to score another run the rest of the game.
Chourio also hit two homers as a 20-year-old in the 2024 postseason, pulling the Brewers into a tie with the New york Mets twice in Game 2 of their wild-card series, a game the Brewers eventually won.
