With just 20 seconds remaining on the clock, Andy Borregales took the field with a chance to hand the Buffalo Bills their first loss of the 2025 season. Oh, and also secure a huge win for the Patriots over a divisional opponent.
However, it was no easy chip shot, as Borregales faced a 52-yard field goal attempt.
Drake Maye executed an impressive drive to get the team within field goal range, but where was he when Borregales’ kick sailed right through the uprights?
“I couldn’t watch,” Maye admitted to reporters after the win. “It was just trust. Trust in him.”
“What a kick,” he added. “Ultimate pressure.”
And reporters also pointed out that in the locker room, chants of the rookie kicker’s name could be heard. So what was that like for Borregales to hear?
“That was awesome,” he said. “I treat every one of those guys as my brother and I’d die for them.”
It was a special moment considering Borregales’ struggles earlier this season. In Week 1, he missed a field goal, and then went on to miss two extra points in the Patriots’ win over the Miami Dolphins. But head coach Mike Vrabel’s faith has never wavered in the rookie, and Sunday’s kick is only going to give him more confidence going forward.
