'We got outplayed, outcoached in the fourth.' Smith talks loss at Nebraska, previews UCLA

“We got outplayed, outcoached in the fourth.”

It was a simple message from Michigan State head coach Jonathan Smith on Monday afternoon. But one that is extremely frustrating for the Spartans in what appeared to be a winnable game at Nebraska.

Smith met with the media on Monday to further break down the Spartans poor finish at Nebraska that resulted in the 38-27 loss to the Cornhuskers. Michigan State led in the third quarter but gave up 24 unanswered points that resulted in the blowout loss.

During his weekly press conference, Smith said the Spartans were “outplayed” and “outcoached” in the fourth quarter. Additionally, he noted that there were special teams blunders that can’t happen in order to win a game of that nature.

Smith also started to look ahead to this week’s matchup against UCLA, providing some insight into what he’s seen on tape from them so far.
