WEBB CITY, Mo. — Webb City’s volleyball team improved its overall record to 18-6 and extended its win streak to 11 with a pair of wins as it hosted Carl Junction and St. Mary’s-Colgan of Pittsburg, Kansas, for a triangular Saturday at the Cardinal Dome.
In the first match of the day, Webb City held an early 8-4 lead over Colgan, but the Panthers were able to tie the set at 10-10. The Cardinals then went on a 6-point run that featured back-to-back service aces by Savannah Crane.
Colgan later was able to battle back from a 17-13 deficit and tied the set at 17-17 off an Addi Dewey kill. An ace by Bella Ascanio gave Colgan a 19-17 lead, but Webb City’s Marlee Harper stopped the Panthers’ run with a hard kill from the left side.
The Cardinals took back the lead at 21-20 with a Kaelyn Maxwell block in the middle. The set remained close down the stretch, but Harper sealed a 25-23 win with a kill from the left side.
Set 2 saw a more dominant performance from the Redbird netters. The Cardinals jumped out to a 12-5 lead off an Adelyn Maxwell kill and, after a Colgan timeout, increased their lead to 13-5 off a block by Kaelyn Maxwell.
Webb City increased its lead to 19-9 off a Crane ace. After a Cardinal hitting error, Webb City went on a 5-point run capped off by a Allison Collard ace that put the Cardinals up 24-10.
The Cardinals wrapped up the 25-11 win off a Tatum Christensen kill from the left side.
Webb City completed the 3-0 sweep of the Panthers with a 25-15 win in Set 3.
Adalyn Maxwell led the Cardinals with 12 kills. Crane had 34 assists and five aces in the match.
In the second match of the day, Carl Junction earned a 3-2 win over Colgan.
The Panthers jumped out to an early 8-1 lead en route to a 25-11 win over the Bulldogs in Set 1.
In the second set, it was Carl Junction that gained an early 9-0 lead in a run that featured four service aces by Jadyn Howard.
Colgan later battled back to within 3 points at 12-15 off a Lupe Musio-Piedra kill from the left side and back-to-back Ascanio kills from the middle of the net.
The match remained close, but Carl Junction closed out the 25-22 win with a Kate Odaffer block in the middle.
The Bulldogs took a 2-1 advantage with a 25-21 win in the third set, but Colgan regrouped to tie the match at 2-2 after earning a 25-15 win in the fourth set.
The Bulldogs outlasted SMC in the decisive fifth set 15-10 to claim a 3-2 match win.
In the final match of the day, the Cardinals logged a 3-0 sweep of Carl Junction. Webb City eked out a 25-23 win in a closely contested first set, but dominated Carl Junction 25-6 in the second set. The Cardinals closed out the match with a 25-19 win in Set 2.
Webb City travels to Parkview on Tuesday, while Carl Junction (13-11) will host Marshfield on Thursday.
