Islanders announce 23-man roster for 2025-26 regular season

The 2025-26 NHL season is almost here and the Islanders have announced their 23-man roster they will carry to begin the regular season.

Familiar faces back in the fold for New York include players such as Mathew Barzal, Bo Horvat, Anders Lee, Jean-Gabriel Pageau, Adam Pelech and Ilya Sorokin.

They will be joined by newcomers like Jonathan Drouin, Emil Heineman and David Rittich who all signed with the club in the offseason as well as this year’s first overall pick Matthew Schaefer who made the team as an 18-year-old.

On the injury front, Semyon Varlamov and Ethan Bear will begin the season on Injured Reserve. Varlamov is skating on his own, but there’s still no timeline for his return.

Meanwhile, Pierre Engvall, who is on Injured non-roster, will meet with doctors next week for a follow-up. He has also skated on his own.

The Islanders’ season begins on Thursday, Oct. 9 on the road against the Pittsburgh Penguins at 7 p.m. Their first home game is against the Washington Capitals on Saturday, Oct. 11 at 7 p.m.
