The Philadelphia Phillies are now down two games after starting the NLDS against the Los Angeles Dodgers with home-field advantage.
Despite a close rally in the final two innings of Game 2, the Phillies fell one run short of their comeback and lost with a final score of 4-3.
Now, Philadelphia is facing elimination from now on, and they will be sending the necessary artillery to stay alive in the 2025 postseason.
Phillies announce Aaron Nola to start Game 3, could bring out Ranger Suarez from bullpen
As the series goes back to Dodger Stadium for Games 3 and 4 (if necessary), The Athletic’s Matt Gelb revealed the Phillies’ pitching plan for Game 3 on Wednesday.
It’s been announced that RHP Aaron Nola will get the start for the Phillies, and if necessary, they will make usual starter, LHP Ranger Suarez, available from the bullpen.
Suarez, 30, hasn’t seen the mound since Sept. 27 after exiting his start against the Minnesota Twins after getting struck in the thigh by a hit ball. The Phillies are desperate for any help, so he will be available if needed.
However, Philadelphia is going to need a lot more help than from its pitching staff moving forward. NL MVP hopeful Kyle Schwarber has gone silent in a hitless streak that’s gone on since the end of the regular season. Meanwhile, Trea Turner (.143 BA) and Bryce Harper (.143 BA) have struggled to get any momentum going so far, either.
