Steelers HC Mike Tomlin names 2 wide receivers who could replace Calvin Austin

Adversity breeds excellence — and that’s exactly what Pittsburgh Steelers HC Mike Tomlin is banking on in finding a replacement for Calvin Austin, who’s expected to miss time with a shoulder injury.

According to Tomlin on Tuesday, the Steelers are less interested in pass catchers outside the organization — and more focused on two wideouts who could take a big step forward in Austin’s absence: Roman Wilson and Scotty Miller.

“It’s not necessarily about pulling from people that aren’t here,” Tomlin said about who will replace Austin. “It’s about the elevation of roles, of guys like Roman Wilson and Scotty Miller for example. I’m excited about watching those guys work and maybe getting some elevated participation. I think that’s one of the beautiful things of the journey that is the season. You’re gonna get faced with some challenges as a collective. One man’s misfortune is another man’s opportunity.”

Truer words have never been spoken — as while Austin’s injury left many fans crushed, it opened the door for Wilson to realize the potential Year 2 breakout some predicted him to have.

Steelers fans can watch Wilson and Miller make the best of their next opportunity against the Browns in Week 6 on October 12 at 1:00 p.m. EDT.
